Often, a population is too large or extensive in order to measure every member and measuring each member would be expensive and time-consuming. A sample allows for inferences to be made about the population using statistical methods.
The laws of statistics imply that accurate measurements and assessments can be made about a population by using a sample. Analysis of variance (ANOVA), linear regression, and more advanced modeling techniques are valid because of the law of large numbers and the central limit theorem.
This will depend on the size of the population and the type of analysis you'd like to do (e.g., what confidence intervals you are using). Power analysis is a technique for mathematically evaluating the smallest sample size needed based on your needs. Another rule of thumb is that your sample should be large enough, but no more than 10% as large as the population.

Always follow your funding opportunity's instructions for application format. Although these applications demonstrate good grantsmanship, time has passed since these grantees applied. The samples may not reflect the latest format or rules. NIAID posts new samples periodically.

New rules published on May 17, 2016, under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) require employers that offer wellness programs that collect employee health information to provide a notice to employees informing them what information will be collected, how it will be used, who will receive it, and what will be done to keep it confidential. The EEOC has published the sample notice below to help employers comply with the ADA:
This page contains sample papers formatted in seventh edition APA Style. The sample papers show the format that authors should use to submit a manuscript for publication in a professional journal and that students should use to submit a paper to an instructor for a course assignment. You can download the Word files to use as templates and edit them as needed for the purposes of your own papers.
The following two sample papers were published in annotated form in the Publication Manual and are reproduced here as PDFs for your ease of use. The annotations draw attention to content and formatting and provide the relevant sections of the Publication Manual (7th ed.) to consult for more information.
These sample papers demonstrate APA Style formatting standards for different student paper types. Students may write the same types of papers as professional authors (e.g., quantitative studies, literature reviews) or other types of papers for course assignments (e.g., reaction or response papers, discussion posts), dissertations, and theses.
As samples of drilled rock or scooped soil are heated within SAM, components within them vaporize and are piped to the different instruments. The mass spectrometer separates elements and compounds by mass for identification and measurement. The gas chromatograph separates the gases into various components for analysis. The laser spectrometer measures the abundance of various isotopes of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen in atmospheric gases such as methane, water vapor, and carbon dioxide.
If x has length 1, is numeric (in the sense ofis.numeric) and x >= 1, sampling viasample takes place from 1:x. Note that thisconvenience feature may lead to undesired behaviour when x isof varying length in calls such as sample(x). See the examples.
The optional prob argument can be used to give a vector ofweights for obtaining the elements of the vector being sampled. Theyneed not sum to one, but they should be non-negative and not all zero.If replace is true, Walker's alias method (Ripley, 1987) isused when there are more than 200 reasonably probable values: thisgives results incompatible with those from R < 2.2.0.

This document includes sample business associate agreement provisions to help covered entities and business associates more easily comply with the business associate contract requirements. While these sample provisions are written for the purposes of the contract between a covered entity and its business associate, the language may be adapted for purposes of the contract between a business associate and subcontractor.
This is only sample language and use of these sample provisions is not required for compliance with the HIPAA Rules. The language may be changed to more accurately reflect business arrangements between a covered entity and business associate or business associate and subcontractor. In addition, these or similar provisions may be incorporated into an agreement for the provision of services between a covered entity and business associate or business associate and subcontractor, or they may be incorporated into a separate business associate agreement. These provisions address only concepts and requirements set forth in the HIPAA Privacy, Security, Breach Notification, and Enforcement Rules, and alone may not be sufficient to result in a binding contract under State law. They do not include many formalities and substantive provisions that may be required or typically included in a valid contract. Reliance on this sample may not be sufficient for compliance with State law, and does not replace consultation with a lawyer or negotiations between the parties to the contract.
These sample applications are provided to illustrate how successful applicants have approached their applications, particularly the Research Plan section. The proposed approaches to research and product development shown in these samples are not meant to represent all of the possible types, methods, approaches, or targets that NIA considers for small business funding.
More NIA samples are in development and will be added to this page over time. Review additional sample applications from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the National Cancer Institute.
Each assessment cycle, a sample of students in designated grades within both public and private schools throughout the United States (and sometimes specified territories and possessions) is selected for assessment. In addition, in state assessment years, of which 2007 is an example, the samples of public schools and their students in each state are large enough to support state-level estimates. In all cases, the selection process utilizes a probability sample design in which every school and student has a chance to be selected, and standard errors can be calculated for the derived estimates.
The Common Core of Data (CCD) file, a comprehensive list of operating public, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), and Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools in each jurisdiction that is compiled each school year by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), is used as the sampling frame for the selection of sample schools. The CCD also contains information about grades served, enrollment, and location of each school. In addition to the CCD list, a set of specially sampled jurisdictions is contacted to determine if there are any newly formed public schools that were not included in the lists used as sampling frames. Considerable effort is expended to increase the survey coverage by locating public schools not included in the most recent CCD file.
On average, a sample of approximately 100 grade-eligible public schools is selected within each jurisdiction; within each school; about 60 students are selected for assessment. Both of these numbers may vary somewhat, depending on the number and enrollment size of the schools in a jurisdiction, and the scope of the assessment in the particular year. Students are sampled from a roster of individual names, not by whole classrooms. The total number of schools selected is a function of the number of grades to be assessed, the number of subjects to be assessed, and the number of states participating. 153554b96e
